Welcome Avery Ella

Remember the Baby Shower Cubed? The 2nd of the 3 has now had her little one! Please welcome Avery Ella! She arrived weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 21" long. After a rough start she made it home on Monday after spending a few days in the NICU-but everything is fine now. I got to spend about an hour with her and the newest mommy and daddy last night and she is absolutely beautiful-she's perfect!

The scariest thing of all is that I'm next! (Holy crap, I'm really freaking out)

This is so bad

How bad is it to get mad at a mentally retarded person? Here's the story:

Preface: At lunch on Monday my boss (who is also pregnant) and I are sitting there talking about McDonald's apple pies and how yummy they sounded. I couldn't get them out of my mind.

On to the story: So, after the kids left school at 2, I was still thinking about McDonald's, and since there is one right across the street, I thought I would go! So I run inside to get the apple pies and a diet coke (great afternoon pick-me-up!) and there is a mentally challenged person ordering next to me. Now, he has no sense of his volume and is practically yelling while he's ordering. Then he turns to me-and still yelling, he asks me when my babies are due. I reply, "In 4 weeks." He then asks how many I'm having. . . "How many babies are in there? 3 or 4?" I reply, "one." His response? "Lady, you're really big!" The entire place heard him. My cashier even had to turn around so she wouldn't laugh in my face.

OMG, seriously?

Welcome to 2009!

So it has taken me a few days to post about the new year, but I figured a lazy Sunday is as good of day as any to do it. It's such a blah day here I haven't even left the house. I'm already dreading going back to work tomorrow, but the kids don't start until Tuesday so at least I'll be able to ease back into the work week. Also, I must keep in my mind that I only have 6 weeks of work until my maternity leave starts. Which makes me think about the biggest present that we will receive in 2009-the birth of our son! If he arrives on time he will be making his debut in only 6 1/2 weeks! Even though I had some very good news in 2008 (having a baby!) I'm sure glad it's over. Here is a recap of our year:

  • January:
  • Adam turned 30 and I was in Las Vegas for the 1st time for work.
  • February:
  • I'm still in Las Vegas, but I traveled 3 out of 4 weeks for work this month.
  • March:
  • (worst month ever)My Uncle Jer passes away and I'm torn about going home for the funeral. We decided not to go. Not even a week later my mom passes away on St. Patrick's Day. When I return home, my boss is evil, so I quit my job. I interview for a teaching position for the remainder of the school year and get offered the job during the interview. I also fly back to Ohio at the end of the month to wrap up my mom's estate.
  • April:
  • We visit the Pacific Northwest - the trip couldn't have come at a better time. I also return to the classroom. We also visit Chicago so I'm not in town for what would have been my mom's 53rd birthday.
  • May:
  • My Grandma Hogan passes away and Adam and I make the trip to Milwaukee for the funeral. (Finally, the year starts to turn for us. . .) I get pregnant but don't know it yet!
  • June:
  • I find out I'm pregnant (but still only tell family)! Adam gets a promotion at work.
  • July:
  • We have our first doctors appointment and we get to hear the baby's heartbeat! I also fly home to Ohio to attend a wedding with my grandma. Also, even though it was still a little early I announced to my friends in person that we were having a baby. At the end of July I turn 30 and we finally make it public that we're having a baby!
  • August:
  • Adam I visit my dad and Wisconsin on better terms this time, we fly up to see the Packers/Bengals preseason football game--Bengals won!
  • September:
  • I drove to North Carolina to visit my best friend Mindy and attend her baby shower for her 2nd little one!
  • October:
  • We find out it's a boy!!!!! Also, my grandma and dad visit for our coed baby shower thrown by Adam's soccer team.
  • November:
  • I finally finish my masters degree after 6 years! We drive home to Ohio for turkey day and a baby shower hosted by my sister in law. It sucks that it's such a long drive for such a short stay. We would return in 3 weeks. . .
  • December:
  • Before we went home for Christmas we did our tour of the hospital where this little one will be born. Freaks me out, I'm really going to have to push this baby out! We make the trip home, again. The trip was much more difficult this time-very uncomfortable for me. My Aunt and Grandma threw a huge and wonderful baby shower. The trip was okay-I ended up with the 24 hour flu, but it was still good to have more time with everyone. Saying goodbye was emotional, everyone kept saying "The next time I see you, you'll be a mom!" That's a scary thought. Once we were back in Georgia we kept busy for the rest of the year. We interviewed and selected our pediatrician for the baby and had a very quiet New Years at home! (I even had a few sips of champagne to celebrate--yummy!)

As you can see the second half of the year was much better for us, but I'm glad 2008 is over. 2008 was the year of funerals for me and I'm hoping that 09 is the year of babies since I have so many friends that are due in 09.

Here is to a wonderful year for everyone!
